FROZEN IN TIME

A camera with the flash going off.

The snap of a camera
one second frozen in time
all the smiling faces
frozen in mock happiness

a female photographer using camera on tripod.a boy, girl, and mother, hugging for picture.

Crying later at promises
not kept
at being tricked by life
at growing - old

An old woman sitting, sipping coffee and reading the paper, resting her feet, while a bucket and mop stand beside her.

Just look at the pictures
for reassurance. Avoid
the mirrors with their
exaggerated smile lines

old woman looking at her reflection in the water, but seeing her younger self there.

Thatís what folks call them
smile lines / frozen lines / pain
lines / lines, lines, lines / donít
think of them as wrinkles

Snapping the camera at the
flowers growing from the box
of bulbs imported through the
mail for planting last fall

flowers with butterflies on them.

A line of blue beads.

Snap, beautiful colors, snap each
planted gently with love, snap, snap,
donít think of how one fall
it will by your turn to be planted

butterflies fluttering over flowers.

Though separated by centuries
we still bond together, you in your
village at the fire cooking and tending
your children.

Me, with my fingers pressed against the
museum glass feeling your life rush
into me for one more moment of
squeezed out existence

I sob to feel you grieve for your
lost loved ones. My tears,
your tears, flowing through
centuries / to spill down my cheeks

black and white animated drawing of a woman crying.

Woman to woman I am with you
experiencing the wonder as
you push forth your newborn child
electricity courses / I gasp as

newborn baby rocking in a primative cradle of wood.

the curator shouts; ďAre you
alright maíam?Ē And I, so
overcome, fall in a heap
on the floor whimpering

woman slumping to the floor in grief.

No!, No, Iím not alright!
Nothing ever changes,
We are all
frozen in time!
