BLACK SHEEP IN THE FAMILY TREE

" If you can not get rid of the family skeleton,
you may as well make it dance." George Bernard Shaw

In every family there are those stories we delight
in discussing repeatedly
And then there are the "other stories",
The ones whispered over afternoon tea.
Well come a little closer because I'm about to do some
family whispering.......

I suppose on a page of this sort,  the top billing should
go to the most qualifying member in the family tree.
 In our family
         there can be little doubt as to who gets that title;

BENEDICT ARNOLD

(The Notorious Traitor)
(thank you Cousin Kit Johnson for your help on this one)

This fellow while not a direct relative of mine, is
nevertheless, in the family tree. His brother, Stephen Arnold
had daughter Catherine Arnold. Catherine married James Ballou
and had son, James Ballou who married Tamasin Cook.
Tamasin Cook  is my first cousin, 9 times removed.
Tamasin and I have the common ancestors of
Nicolas Cook Sr. and Joanna Rockwood.

John Huntley is my 9th Great Grandfather.

According to the diary of Commissioner Thomas Miner
of Stonington, "John Huntley (Shortly after his marriage
to his third wife, Mary Hand, not my ancestor),
was found guilty of fornication with her,
which took place before their marriage,
while she was still married to her previous
husband, Charles Barnes.
They were fined 10 pounds which was
considered to ba a very high fine for that period.

BALTHAZAR DeWOLF
(no photo available)

Balthazar DeWolf  is my 9th Great Grandfather.

The first mention of Balthazar's name is found in the
Hartford Court Records of 05 Mar 1656,
When he was arrested in Whethersfield,Ct,
for smoking on the street. The court gave him
a hefty fine of six pence (one hundred dollars),
and of this occassion it is said that immediately
after paying his fine, he lit his pipe,
and casually strolled outside for another
public smoke on the street.!
