THOMAS BIRD

11th Great Grandfather of Sarah Elizabeth Rose

A First Settler of Hartford, CT.

(I'd like to thank Steven Bird for helping with the corrections with this line.)

The confusion stemmed from the fact that there are two Thomas Birds.

One from Dorchester, MA, and ours, who is from Hartford, CT.

1) Married: 1st abt 1620 (wife and date unknown) probably in England.

The guess for this marriage date is based upon the fact that

His daughters Mary and Hannah must have been born in England

sometime prior to 1625, since their oldest

children were born about 1640

Also from Steven Bird:

2. The only things that we know definitely are that he owned land in Hartford

on May 1, 1644 (the date of its recording there),

and that he died shortly before 10 Aug 1662 (the date of the estate's inventory).

3) He is PROBABLY the same Thomas Bird who lived in Ipswich, MA in 1639

(based on the marriage of John North of Ipswich to Mary Bird, on a date unknown,

but with John North recorded as a land owner in Ipswich in 1639) and he is also

PROBABLY the same Thomas Bird that owned land in Braintree, MA but never occupied it.

He may in fact be the father of Thomas Bird of Dorchester, MA, but there is no

proof at all of this relationship, beyond the striking similarity of the first v

names in both families. They could also be cousins, then again they may be unrelated.

4) From Carol Gibbens
"Thomas Bird, father to both Mary and Hannah Bird, left a will.
He specifically identifies his daughter Hannah as Hannah Scott
and he specifically identifies his daughter Mary as Mary North, twice in fact.
John North named his first daughter Mary,
following the tradition of first daughter named in honor of the mother.
There should be no confusion as to who was John North's wife.
